FaceFusion Troubleshooting: Check Inputs and Settings

Troubleshoot FaceFusion with version-matched documentation, input checks, face selection and output review, without unsupported filter commands or benchmarks.

Correction, September 20, 2026: The earlier guide presented an unsupported 2,000-image test, false-positive rates and filter-override commands that were not verified against the stated release. It also made unsupported Lewdly pricing, speed and legal-protection claims. Those claims and instructions are withdrawn. This replacement covers documented configuration concepts and a proposed troubleshooting process, not a performance test. Lewdly publishes this guide.

A failed face-editing job can have several causes. Before changing settings, record the installed FaceFusion version, the operation you selected and the exact message shown. A file-path error, unavailable execution provider, incorrect face selection and content-policy block are different problems.

Match the Documentation to the Installed Version

Start with the official CLI documentation and the documentation associated with your installed release. This page previously targeted version 3.5, but the current documentation linked here should not be treated as a historical specification for every older release or third-party fork.

Keep a copy of the working configuration before making changes. Check that an option is actually supported by the installed application. If an option is unrecognized, stop and verify its spelling and version instead of adding more speculative flags.

The current Paths documentation identifies facefusion.ini as the default configuration file and documents --config-path for choosing another file. It also distinguishes source, target and output paths. That does not establish the old article's asserted operating-system-specific configuration locations or its proposed safety section.

Check Files Before Diagnosing the Model

Confirm that the source and target files open normally and are the files you intended to use. Keep originals separate from edited outputs. Check the destination directory and whether the application can write there.

Use a permitted, ordinary portrait as a small diagnostic input when investigating an installation problem. A representative short video segment is easier to inspect than a full production batch. Do not upload sensitive source material to a public issue tracker to demonstrate an error.

Record what happened rather than labeling every failure a moderation false positive:

Observation Next Check
Input cannot be opened File path, format and access permissions
Processing fails during initialization Exact error, installed dependencies and selected provider
Wrong face is selected Selection mode, reference and the visible preview
Output contains defects Compare source, target and complete result before changing one setting
Content is rejected Read the message and applicable policy; seek support for a suspected mistake

Confirm the Execution Provider

FaceFusion's current Execution documentation lists providers including CPU, CoreML and CUDA. Choose according to the installed environment and supported hardware; an entry in the documentation does not mean it is available on every machine.

When reporting a failure, record the provider and relevant environment details without exposing account credentials or private paths. Keep initialization errors separate from output-quality judgments. This guide does not provide a universal GPU-memory minimum or render-time estimate.

Review Face Selection Explicitly

The Face Selector documentation describes many, one and reference modes and reference-based controls. Select the mode that matches the intended edit and inspect the preview, particularly when several people appear.

A similarity setting is not permission to use someone's likeness. Use images you are authorized to edit and obtain appropriate permission for the intended depiction and distribution. Do not assume a successful face match establishes identity, consent or a right to publish.

Inspect the Result Before Scaling Up

Check the whole output for changes to unintended faces, inconsistent expression, visible boundaries and flicker across frames. Compare it with the original rather than judging only a small preview. If you change a supported setting, keep the previous result and note what changed.

Log attempts, failures, active editing time and any actual charges. A successful single image does not establish a reliable batch workflow. Expand only after the representative sample meets the project's requirements.

Choose a Hosted Workflow on Verified Capabilities

A hosted service may reduce installation work, but check whether it supports the exact edit you need, its current charge, permitted inputs and data-handling terms. General image editing is not proof of a dedicated FaceFusion replacement.

Neither a commercial subscription nor a software license automatically supplies permission for the people or source material in an edit. Before publication, check the destination's manipulated-media rules and keep the relevant project permissions. No tool choice guarantees legal protection, successful output or unrestricted use.
