Candy AI Alternatives in 2026, and Is Candy AI Free?
Is Candy AI free, what it costs after signup, and eight Candy AI alternatives ranked by the complaint that sends people looking. Prices checked September 2026.
Candy AI is free to try and not free to use. Candy's own homepage describes a free trial and three paid plans, monthly, quarterly and yearly, with a pool of tokens that chat, voice, images and video all draw from. It publishes no prices on any public page. The two URLs where a pricing page would normally live both returned a 404 when we checked on 2 September 2026, so the figure you'll pay only appears after you register.
Quick Answer: Which Candy AI alternative fits depends on what sent you looking. If it's the token meter, Lewdly doesn't charge for conversation at all, and Nomi's site describes no meter on chat. If it's the hidden price, Kupid and CrushOn print theirs in full. If it's a companion who reaches out first, Lewdly and Nomi both do that. Lewdly publishes this blog, so the ranking below carries a disclosure, and every price in it was read from the app's own site on the same day.
Key Takeaways
- Candy AI has a free trial and paid plans that are shown only after signup, and its own site says tokens are spent across chat, voice, image and video
- The most recent review we read lists Candy's annual plan at €47.88 upfront, but that is a reviewer's screenshot rather than a Candy page
- Lewdly is the alternative here where conversation costs nothing beyond the plan, and Nomi's site mentions no chat meter either
- Kupid and CrushOn are the two where you can read every price before giving an email address
- SpicyChat's prices rise on 8 September 2026, and CrushOn's free tier deletes chat history after seven idle days
- Any site offering "Candy AI premium free" is not Candy, and the only free access Candy offers is its own trial
Is Candy AI Free?
Candy's homepage answers this in its own words. "Start slow with the free trial," it says. Then it describes a monthly plan for trying things out, a quarterly plan for people who want to invest more time, and a yearly plan for "long term connection." Every plan comes with "a generous batch of tokens to use across voice, chat, image, and video," and you can "top up anytime."
Candy's own word for it is trial. The StartupHub review we read on 2 September 2026 calls the same thing a genuine free tier, with limited messages and the basic character library. Either way, Candy doesn't publish an allowance you can plan around.
One more detail from Candy's own copy is worth knowing before you build a character. The site says "the more detailed your companion, the more tokens you'll use." Customisation is metered.
What Candy AI Costs After You Sign Up
We tried to read the price from Candy directly and couldn't. candy.ai/pricing and candy.ai/premium both return 404, and the homepage's Premium link opens the registration modal. That is a design choice, and it's the single biggest reason "candy ai alternative" is a search people run.
The figures below are therefore secondary, and we're labelling them that way. The StartupHub review we read on 2 September 2026 lists €13.99 for one month, €26.97 for three months, which it works out to €8.99 a month, and €47.88 for twelve months, which it works out to €3.99 a month. The same review says "Candy AI publishes no token pricing anywhere before you subscribe." A US-facing roundup at aiblogfirst quotes $12.99 a month. Those are two reviewers' checkouts on two dates in two currencies. Yours may differ.
What we can say from Candy's own pages is the shape of the bill. A subscription, plus tokens, plus top-ups, with images and video and voice all pulling from the same pool. If you generate a lot, the subscription price is a floor.
Why People Look for a Candy AI Alternative
Reading the complaints that show up around this search, four keep coming back, and three of them are things you can verify on Candy's own site.
The meter runs on conversation. Candy's homepage lists chat among the things tokens pay for. On some alternatives, chat is included and the meter only touches media.
The price is behind the signup wall. Covered above.
Detailed characters cost more to build. Candy's own words again. If you like to write long backstories, that's a recurring cost, not a one-off.
Memory and repetition. This one we can't verify, because we didn't run a test and Candy's site says it "remembers what matters." It comes up repeatedly in the reviews we read, and every alternative below has a public claim about memory you can compare.
Candy also does a lot right, and an alternatives page that pretends otherwise is useless. The roster is over 100 characters across girls, anime and guys, the interface is, in our view, the most polished in the category, and it does voice, images and video in one place. If none of the four complaints is yours, stay.

Candy's own row, for comparison, would read no visible price, chat metered by tokens, trial with unpublished limits, voice yes, images and video yes, and "reaches out first" unclear from its site.
The Eight Alternatives, Ranked
The order below is about how many of the four Candy complaints each app removes, weighed against what it gives up. Lewdly runs this blog. Its position is our stated view, argued from what each site publishes. There are no scores here because we ran no test.
1. Lewdly
Lewdly removes three of the four complaints outright. Chat costs nothing beyond the plan on any tier, so there's no meter on talking. Prices are on the homepage, $3.99 for the first week then $4.99, $8.99 for the first month then $11.99, $19.99 for the first quarter then $24.99, and $64.99 for the first year then $69.99, with 35, 100, 300 and 1,200 credits respectively. And she texts first when you go quiet, with a mute switch per conversation.
On memory, the thing we can't verify for Candy, Lewdly's approach is at least visible. Past the recent window of the chat, each character keeps a set of facts about you and a summary of older conversation, and you can open that, correct it, or tell her to forget something and have it stay forgotten.
The roster is 95 characters, 60 women and 35 men, each with a locked face so photos stay consistent. Credits are spent on photos, short clips, live voice calls billed per minute, and per-character private content packs where every item is labelled before you pay. The free tier is one image and ten messages, no card, which is enough to judge how a character writes and not enough to skip paying.
What Candy still does better is scale. Over 100 characters against 95, a dedicated anime category, and a slicker interface. If browsing is the fun part, the gap is real. Our Candy AI alternative page covers the same ground from the product side, and the pricing page points you to the current plans in the app.
Want to skip the complexity? Lewdly gives you professional AI results instantly with no technical setup required.
2. Nomi
Nomi removes the silence, and its site describes no meter on conversation. Its homepage says it's free to start with no credit card, that your Nomi messages you proactively, and that voice chats and hands-free calls are included, with tone shifting as the character's mood does. Group chats let several Nomis talk at once, and the site stakes its identity on staying unfiltered. Memory is the centre of its marketing.
It shares Candy's one real weakness. No public price. Nomi's marketing site has no pricing page. The cancellation policy only confirms monthly, quarterly and yearly billing, with no refunds for unused time, and its wiki says paid accounts get up to ten Nomis and ten group chats plus more daily selfie and art requests than free. If your complaint about Candy was the hidden price, Nomi doesn't fix it. If it was memory or nobody messaging first, Nomi is the obvious first stop.
3. Kupid AI
Kupid fixes the hidden price completely. Its site prints three monthly tiers at $12, $29 and $49 and three yearly tiers at $99, $199 and $299, and its trial lists unlimited chat, premium image generation, voice messages, video generation, custom model access, priority responses and chat memory as included. The trial requires a card, with a $0.50 verification charge that Kupid says is refunded immediately.
Against Candy, Kupid gives you the same media set, images, video and voice, with a price you can see. What it doesn't publish is which features sit on which tier, so the checkout is still where the last question gets answered. Kupid's site also mentions a $3.99 a month option to keep your data, which reads like a lapsed-subscriber plan, and we couldn't confirm the trigger.
4. CrushOn AI
CrushOn has the most transparent pricing page of any app in this article, and it's the cheapest paid route in. Free is $0 with 100 message credits a month, unlimited use of the free models, and 8K memory. On the annual toggle, Standard was $4.90 a month billed as $58.88, Premium $7.90 billed as $94.88, Luxe $25 billed as $299.99, and Elite $66.70 billed as $799.99. Voice messages are on every tier. There is no video.
Two cautions. Chat is metered here too, in message credits, so it swaps Candy's tokens for a different meter rather than removing one. And the free plan deletes chat history after seven days of inactivity, which the page states plainly and which no other free tier we read does. If you're leaving Candy for community roleplay characters and a low bill, CrushOn is the pick. If you want one girlfriend with photos, it isn't built for that.
5. SpicyChat
SpicyChat is the other community roleplay platform, and it publishes both its prices and its price rise. From its own docs, Get A Taste is $5 a month rising to $5.95 on 8 September 2026, True Supporter $14.95 rising to $19.95, and I'm All In $24.95 rising to $29.95, with annual plans of $60, $199.95 and $299.95 after the change. Existing subscribers keep their current price as long as they don't change plans.
The tiers buy memory of 4K, 8K and 16K, conversation images from the middle tier, and text to speech and a priority queue on the top tier. Video isn't mentioned, voice sits on the top tier only, and the free tier has ads. As a Candy alternative it's a different product, text roleplay with a huge character library, and the reason to move now rather than later is the date.
6. DreamGF
DreamGF looks like the closest match to Candy's model, subscription plus tokens, and its pricing page publishes the token rates Candy doesn't. Images cost 10 tokens, voice messages 3, voice calls 7 a minute, companion generation 20, with 100 tokens included monthly and top-ups from $2.99 to $179.99 sold only to paying members.
The plans are where to slow down. The page lists a 3-Month Membership at a $12.99 first payment renewing at $25.99 a month, a Monthly Membership at $29.97 first renewing at $77.97 every three months, and an Annual Membership at $69.99 first renewing at $311.88. The labels and the renewal periods don't match each other as of our fetch date, and there's no free tier described. If you want Candy's structure with published token maths, it's here. Read the checkout line, not the plan name, and note the renewal.
7. Promptchan
Promptchan is worth considering only if images and clips were the reason you used Candy. Its upgrade page lists Free at $0 with daily free gems, Plus at $14.99 a month with 100 gems, Premium at $23.99 with 400, and Pro at $33.99 with 800 plus unlimited casual generations. Video, custom characters and voice calls are Pro only. The homepage claims more than 20 million community images and videos and a no-filter chat.
It removes the hidden price and adds a very large visual library. It doesn't remove the meter, and voice sits behind the most expensive tier on this list.
8. HeraHaven
HeraHaven promises uncensored chat and a companion who remembers your stories, and lets you join free. That is the extent of what it publishes. No pricing page exists, the obvious URL returns a 404, and its sitemap of 47 URLs contains no plan or price. It's listed here because it's a real competitor in this space, and it's last because it shares Candy's hidden pricing without publishing enough else to compare.

Questions People Ask About Candy AI
Is there a Candy AI app? Candy runs in the browser at candy.ai. We didn't find an app-store listing linked from its own site, and we'd treat any third-party "download" link with suspicion, since the search results for this query include pages offering Candy premium for free that have nothing to do with Candy.
Can you get Candy AI premium for free? Not legitimately. The only free access Candy describes is its own trial, and a page promising a free premium unlock is either an affiliate funnel or a credential trap. The same warning applies to every app in this article.
Does Candy AI do NSFW? Its homepage describes "immersive, uncensored fantasy experiences," so by its own description, yes. What that means at the edge is a policy question, and you'll find the limits in its legal pages after signup.
Does Candy AI have male characters? Yes. The homepage's category switch offers girls, anime and guys, and it advertises an AI boyfriend lineup. Among the alternatives, Lewdly's 35 men and Promptchan's community men are the published male rosters.
Which alternative is most like Candy? DreamGF on billing structure, Kupid on feature set with visible prices, Lewdly on the girlfriend-with-photos experience without a chat meter. Our best AI girlfriend apps ranking covers the same nine products from the other direction.
Where to Start
If you're leaving over tokens, try Lewdly's ten messages, where conversation is never metered, and Nomi's free account, and see which one writes the way you want. If you're leaving over the hidden price, Kupid and CrushOn will show you a number before you show them an email. And if you're just curious what a companion who texts first feels like, the AI girlfriend hub has the Lewdly characters, and unfiltered chat explains where the lines are.
Prices in this article were read on 2 September 2026. Every one of them will drift, and the app's own checkout is the only figure that counts.
